La Manzanilla is a small fishing village located in the La Huerta Municipality, at the southern end of Costa Allegra. Sitting in the southeastern corner of the Bay of Tenacatita, La Manzanilla is home to a population of 1,592 people and about 300 American Crocodiles that reside in the 264 Hectare wildlife sanctuary on the outskirts of town.
With international airports at both Puerta Vallarta and Manzanillo within driving distance, La Manzanilla is easily accessible but remains a quiet fishing village for much of the year.
While we suggest spending at least a couple of evenings watching world class sunsets from the private terrace at Casa Kashmir, La Manzanilla contains plenty to entertain the adventurous spirit. Filled with fabulous restaurants providing a lively nightlife, there is always something to do, see and especially EAT. From beach restaurants serving ceviche to multi course restaurants in cozy courtyards the options are endless.
During the day you can take a fabulous ocean tour with Costalegre Eco-Adventures, the local nature conservancy, to see the multitude of ocean wildlife and hopefully catch a glimpse of the whales that frequent the area. Or spend some time closer to shore swimming along the beach, sunbathing, or exploring on one of Casa Kashmir’s paddle boards
Shary’s journey to La Manzanilla began in 1984 when she visited her Auntie Margo Murphy, a pioneering spirit who was among the first foreigners to build a house in the charming coastal village during the mid-sixties.
At that time, there wasn’t a brick in the street or any houses on the hills, and Margo’s stories of the vibrant community and stunning landscapes captivated Shary, igniting a sense of belonging that would linger for decades.
In contrast, Jeff’s first visit to La Manzanilla occurred much later, in 2015, when he was drawn to the area’s natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere.
It wasn’t until 2021 that Shary and Jeff decided to solidify their connection to this enchanting place by purchasing their home on the beach, a decision that intertwined their lives with the rich tapestry of La Manzanilla’s history and community.
